We will be participating in the Canada Day Parade again this year!
We would LOVE your participation - we need to get as many parents and players walking with the group as possible. We will be handing out registration flyers AND Ravens tattoos to the crowds. This is one of the many important ways our community can SEE our RAVEN players! AND, if you haven't done it before, it is FUN!
You & your player can come to the Parade marshalling area for 9:45AM (or earlier). The parade starts at 10AM sharp. We will have face painting for all the players at the marshalling location(in RAVENS colours of course!) and jerseys & water for all the participants -moms and dads included!
More information will be distributed closer to the event with any further details! PLEASE email david@universitysprinklers.com if you can attend!

Stand on Guard with the Vancouver Canucks

On Thursday, April 4, 2013 Richmond Ravens Atom C1 player Kaitlyn Eng had the opportunity of a lifetime to 'Stand on Guard' with the Vancouver Canucks when they hosted the Edmonton Oilers. Kaitlyn was chosen through BC Hockey and the Vancouver Canucks Centre for BC Hockey through a contest they had for all BC Minor Hockey Players.
The night began with Kaitlyn arriving at Rogers Arena where her host greeted her for the evening. Her host Megan escorted Kaitlyn to her own dressing room and explained the evening to her. Kaitlyn first got a tour of the facility and then got to watch the pre-game warm up. After watching the pre-game warm up, Kaitlyn was handed over to her own security guard and just before entering the tunnel, Coach Vignault gave her a few words of encouragement and patted her on the helmet. She was then led through the tunnel where she would lead the Vancouver Canucks onto the ice for the pre-game skate. She was given some high fives by the players and she received the signal to lead them on. Kaitlyn hopped onto the ice followed by the Canucks and she skated around in their end with them. It was time for the National Anthem and she lined up on the blue line between the Sedins. Both Sedins helped her with her helmet and they stood together during the Anthem. Kaitlyn then left the ice to get changed and then to watch the game. After coming off the ice, Kaitlyn was greeted by her favourite Canuck, Ryan Kesler and he posed for a few photos with her. Kaitlyn was over the moon for this opportunity as all her family and friends were watching on TV and some were at the game. To top it off, two of her best friends were able to get tickets right behind the Canucks bench to cheer her on.
Be sure to check the BC Hockey website at the beginning of the 2013/2014 for an opportunity to enter your name next season and hopefully another Raven will be able to 'Stand on Guard.'
The Devils' team - for the third consecutive year - hosted the Richmond Ravens Midget team in an exhibition game Saturday at Minoru Arenas. The game was initiated to honour and remember Samantha Wong, who played hockey and was a big supporter of the sport. In addition, the Samantha Wong Memorial Game has continued annually to help increase awareness of Lupus, of which Samantha lost her life to.
The games have raised funds for the B.C. Lupus Society. Last weekend's game generated $4,508.09, all of which will be donated (and matched by the Wong family) to the provincial society.
Lupus is a chronic autoimmune disease characterized by inflammation in one or more parts of the body. A complex disease, it can target any tissue or organ of the body including skin, muscles, joints, blood, lungs, heart, kidneys and the brain. Men, women and children can be diagnosed with lupus, but between the ages of 15 and 45 nine times more women than men are diagnosed.
Lupus is life-threatening and life-altering, but while a serious condition in most cases it can be treated and controlled. Diagnosis and treatment are improving, allowing people to live increasingly active and productive lives.
A worthy cause, as you can see.

Our Goaltender Development Program was a tremendous success with 15 well attended goalie sessions! We were extremely fortunate to have goalie Kylee Styles and players from our Pacific Ravens Major Midget Team join us as shooters for our last session of the season. Congratulations to all of our goaltenders who improved significantly throughout the duration of the season and a special thank you to Todd May and Mark Kusec for their on-ice assistance for the sessions.
Have a terrific off season and we look forward to serving you in the future!
Nothing but the best,
Hi All, for those that have not heard, last night the Midget A team won the Provincial Championship Game against Tri Cities 5 -3, The Peewees, despite scoring two goals late in the third period to tie the game and take it into overtime did not win (the goal that tied the game was scored with 32 seconds left on the clock, talk about exciting). Thank you to both teams for their incredible efforts to make it to their championship games. Many younger Ravens witnessed your respective journeys and we are all very proud of how well both teams did. Thank you to Head coaches AJ Sander and Tony Lindsay and all their coaching staff for their commitment to the teams. Congratulations to both teams.
Thank you to host committee chairs Judy Eng and Linda Warren as well as all their parent volunteers who insured both championship tournaments ran smoothly, I saw many of you there day and night and the Board is very appreciative of how much time you all spent being such great hosts. I have many positive comments about the tournaments and BC Hockey is also very grateful to the Ravens as a result.
Everyone needs a good rest today because tomorrow we start all over with our Ice Classic tournament. Please insure that you are on time for all the shifts you have signed up for and check with Bal or Mona if you have time to spare to see if there are any job requiring your help.
See you all at the rink.

Our own coach Brendan Metz along with assistants Sacha Pogor and Adem Hamzagic helped coach the Red team and they were the winners of the tournament. Three of our graduating players participated, Rachel Coulson, Dana Freigang and Emily Wong.
Congratulations to Dana Feigang who won one of the scholarships that were awarded to the Midget graduating players. The bursaries are awarded to the player who best exemplify excellence and sportmanship during the course of the tournament. Playoff Banners

Ravens Bantam C1, Atom C1, Midget A, Peewee A, Peewee C2 and Atom C3 won Playoff Banners.
Ravens Bantam C1 defeated the North Shore Avalanche 4-2 for the Bantam Blue Group championship on March 5, 2013.
Submitted by Head Sports Writer for Ravens Bantam C1, Craig Murray
Following inspirational words by Coach Drew MacDonald, the Ravens took to the ice. The Avalanche opened the scoring, but centre Megumi Randall quickly evened things up with a high-angle wrist-shot. A further exchange of goals followed, with Sidney Parker banging in a superb cross-ice pass from Veronica Pallone. Four minutes later, Pallone repeated the pass but this time to Randall, who backhanded the puck into the net.
A scoreless but furious second period ensued, with goalie Taubin Stoneman anchoring the Ravens through some very tense moments. On the defense, Qianna Olarte and Lauryn Murray made opposing players feel downright unwelcome in front of the net, while Lauren Gee and Amanda MacDonald blunted several Avalanche rushes, carefully shepherding attackers away from the goal. Holly Jang and Nicole Heinrich added excitement by taking rushes of their own.
On the offense, wingers Sara Woodley and Mahara Gibson-Zeinoun initiated heart-pounding rushes, with Sydney Dowling close by to pick up the rebounds. Elsewhere, Sarah Marcoe was a regular guest in front of the Avalanche net, Emma Leong was a fearsome battler along the boards, and Sarah Mayer and Athena Palmieri both forechecked tenaciously, always on the lookout for timely turnovers.
The third period saw the Avalanche fighting desperately to even up the game. However, with 1 minute remaining Ravens captain Jaime Hawbolt deftly cleared the puck the length of the ice... into the Avalanche's empty net. Final score: Ravens 4. Avalanche 2
Hats off to our Ravens Juvenile team who played their first play- off game with just 5 skaters and their goalie. They held the Maple Ridge team from scoring until the middle of the second period but eventually the lack or rest resulted in the game ending 5-1 for the opposition. Congrats to Julie Bauer, Rachel Berg, Ashley Tam, Madison Perkins, Katie Alecia and Kyssha Mah for demonstrating true team spirit and perseverance despite the odds against them.
Congratulations to the Richmond Ravens Atom C1 team on who followed up their league championship win two weeks ago with a first place finish in the Surrey Super Heart tournament this past weekend! The girls had 3 wins and 1 loss in round robin play and faced a tough North Vancouver team in the final. Although they trailed 3-1 after two periods the Ravens offense ignited in the third period with three unanswered goals to prevail and capture the championship trophy. The coaching staff and parents are proud of all of the players. Each player worked hard, showed determination and played a solid team game. The Ravens now prepare for the playoffs and then to host the Richmond Ravens tournament over spring break.
